Overdose Awareness Walk and Recovery Event
Friday, August 29, 2025 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- LocationSO-44 Social Work Rotunda at FAU Boca Campus
- DescriptionA walk of remembrance in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day will start at parking lot #5 and end at the SO-44 Rotunda outside the Social Work Building at 11:30 AM. There will be some parking available in lot 5, but it is impossible to predict how much. We suggest arriving early. If there is no parking available at Lot 5, metered parking is available throughout the campus.
Underneath the rotunda, resource tables and a podium will be set up for speaker presentations. Speakers will include parents of students lost to overdose, and two students speaking about the importance of the Collegiate Recovery Community at FAU and how the organization has been supportive. The presentation is expected to start at noon.
Throughout the event, several Recovery-Oriented Community Services Organizations serving Palm Beach and Broward Counties will provide Naloxone (Narcan) to any interested individual free of charge. Overdose is the leading cause of death in the United States for any person under the age of 50, and naloxone is an over-the-counter intranasal medication that quickly reverses the effects of an opioid overdose and saves lives. We hope this event raises awareness and fights the stigma surrounding addiction and recovery.
