Leslie Derfler, Professor Emeritus of History, passed away on Sept. 3. Les took his PhD in History from Columbia University in 1962, and taught at Florida Atlantic University from 1969 until his retirement in 2003.

A distinguished researcher whose work was supported by National Endowment of the Humanities, American Philosophical Society, and Fulbright awards, Les published twelve books, primarily on modern French history. At FAU, he received the College of Arts and Humanities Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.

Les is survived by his wife, Gunilla, four children, and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Glick Family Funeral Home, 3600 North Federal Highway in Boca Raton, on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m.
