- Sep 2511:00 AMRevisioning Utopia | Why We Need to Design Technology for and with AnimalsA Florida Atlantic University I-SENSE event:Why We Need to Design Technology for and with AnimalsTechnological development has significantly advanced human interests but also increasingly impacted other living beings and the ecosystems on which we all depend. Animal-Computer Interaction (ACI) is a growing field, taking an animal-centered perspective on the study and design of interactive systems to improve animals’ lives and human-animal relations, enabling animals to participate in the design process as legitimate stakeholders and contributors. Through some of our projects, I will exemplify how ACI could provide ethical and methodological frameworks, and design solutions that benefit animals, humans and the ecosystems we share, from animal-centred wearables, ambient interfaces and enriching interactive environments, to multispecies smart cities.About the Speaker:Dr. Clara Mancini is Full Professor of Animal-Computer Interaction (ACI) in the School of Computing and Communications at The Open University, UK. Her work investigates the interaction between animals and technology; and the nexus between technology, animal wellbeing, and human-animal relations. Her research spans the theory, methodology, practice and ethics of designing animal-centred interactive systems for and with animals.
