FAU Alumni Association Board Welcomes New Members
Florida Atlantic University’s Alumni Association Board of Directors welcomed Gerri Lynn Busold ’05; Corey Hancock, Ph.D., ’02, ’05; Rachel Huerta ’07, ’11; Mark Kattoura, Ph.D., ’01, ’03, ’13; Michelle Lurie ’92; Michael Velez ’05; and Craig Winograd ’89 to its board. The seven new directors were recently approved by the board, and each will serve a two-year term.
Florida Atlantic University’s Alumni Association Board of Directors welcomed Gerri Lynn Busold ’05; Corey Hancock, Ph.D., ’02, ’05; Rachel Huerta ’07, ’11; Mark Kattoura, Ph.D., ’01, ’03, ’13; Michelle Lurie ’92; Michael Velez ’05; and Craig Winograd ’89 to its board. The seven new directors were recently approved by the board, and each will serve a two-year term.
“Our Alumni Association continues to make strong strides for our community, and the addition of our new board directors promises to keep that momentum strong,” said Katie G. Burke, Ph.D., ’08, ’10, ’15, ’17, assistant vice president of alumni and community engagement. “Each of them represents the university with distinction and will help us maximize our efforts and impact as we move forward.”
Busold graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social psychology. She currently serves as a senior clinical coordinator at Heather R. Hayes & Associates.
Hancock is a two-time alumnus, receiving his bachelor’s degree in political science in 2002 and his master’s degree in Spanish in 2005. He now serves as the county director for the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Huerta, a two-time alumna, received both her bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing from Florida Atlantic. She is a nurse practitioner and owner of Direct Primary Care of Boca Raton.
Kattoura, who is returning for his second appointment on the board, graduated with three degrees from Florida Atlantic, receiving a bachelor’s and master’s degree in communications, and a Ph.D. in comparative studies. He now serves as a social insurance specialist for the Social Security Administration.
Lurie received her bachelor’s degree in ocean engineering from Florida Atlantic and later worked as a mechanical engineer. She now serves as the vice president of membership for Temple Isaiah in Fulton, Maryland.
Velez graduated with his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Florida Atlantic. He currently works at Northwestern Mutual as a field director and financial advisor.
Winograd received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Florida Atlantic. He is the owner of Winning Information Technologies Group, Inc., in Boca Raton.
Additionally, the FAU Alumni Association Board of Directors appointed its new executive committee for the upcoming fiscal year. Chris Ferreira ’16, ’20, will now serve as chair after spending the previous year as alumni engagement liaison. Joining Ferreira on the executive committee are Kris Wall ’01 as vice chair; José Zenón ’95 as secretary; Jeffrey Joyner, Esq., ’09 as treasurer; Sara Valdivieso ’99, ’03 as alumni engagement liaison; Eric Dansky ’12, ’15 as officer-at-large; and Justine Avila ’05 as immediate past chair
“As we transition to a new era of the board, I am excited for the many opportunities before us,” Ferreira said. “With the dedication of our new and returning directors, we are uniquely positioned to continue to support the university by facilitating ongoing and lifelong relationships, and by fostering loyalty, pride and support. We stand prepared to enhance our membership initiatives and bolster our scholarship programs to support students.”
