- All dayGhost HuntThis October, the architecture studios are getting spooky! Each week, AIAS will be hiding a set number of ghosts throughout the studios for students to find. Keep your eyes peeled while you work because these sneaky spirits could be anywhere. The ghost hunt will run all month long as a fun way to celebrate Halloween and bring some seasonal spirit to the studio. Find a ghost, snap a picture, and share it with AIAS to join the fun. - All dayDia de Los Muertos Community OfrendaIt's the time of year in many traditions when we most remember our beloved dead, and for the past fifteen years or so, JCBA has been here to help you do so in a celebratory spirit through our annual Community Day of the Dead ofrenda. If you are local and if you want to honor a loved one's memory with us, please feel free to bring something to display on it, in community with the other items on the ofrenda. We'll have pictures of our founders, Arthur and Mata Jaffe, and paper marigolds and traditional artenanías mexicanas... you bring the rest. But please no food, no plants. Our ofrenda is in the lobby of the Jaffe Center for Book Arts; you may come visit it even if you're not adding something to it. Our ofrenda is illuminated and visible even when the center is closed, and you are welcome to come look at it through our lobby doors even during the late-night hours when the Wimberly Library is open. We’ll keep the ofrenda on display through St. Martin's Day (November 11), and you’re welcome to come collect the ofrenda items that you've brought after that, should you wish.In choosing items to bring to our ofrenda, please keep in mind Dia de Los Muertos is not Halloween. Halloween ushers in these annual Days of the Dead, of course, but Dia de Los Muertos is more about love and remembrance… and festivity, for sure! It’s a beautiful tradition from Mexico for keeping the channels open, and that is a wonderful thing.

- 11:00 AM1hI-SENSE Distinguished Speaker: Sometimes You Can Observe a Lot Just by Watching: Sensors, Theory, and the Inner Workings of Aquatic EcosystemsJoin The Sensing Institute (I-SENSE) for another Distinguished Seminar speaker event with Matt Cohen!Seminar Title: Sometimes You Can Observe a Lot Just by Watching: Sensors, Theory, and the Inner Workings of Aquatic EcosystemsAbstract: High-frequency sensors have transformed our capacity to observe the phenomenology of environmental variation, and the resulting data streams have enabled new tests of ecosystem and watershed theory. This talk will describe five breakthroughs in river and watershed science enabled by high frequency measurements from in situ sensors, ranging from multi-decadal time series of stream metabolism and nutrient assimilation, to deploying sensors in a Lagrangian reference frame to extract spatial patterns of river function, to detecting the coupled signals of short and long-term water storage embedded in patterns of watershed solute release. These examples highlight the fertile interplay of theory and measurements in the context of aquatic ecosystem stewardship, and the talk will close with thoughts on the next generation of insights needed to better understand and manage our water resources.Matt Cohen is the Carl Swisher Eminent Scholar in Water Resources and Director of the Water Institute at the University of Florida. His research focuses on wetlands, rivers, and aquifers. He received a BS from Swarthmore College (PA) in environmental engineering and a PhD from the University of Florida in systems ecology. His scholarly passion is ecohydrology, which explores the critical interface of ecosystems and water. His research has focused on Florida, exploring the impacts of land management on water quality and quantity, the health and function of wetlands, and changes in the energy basis of river ecosystems. His most recent work focuses on the restoration of Florida’s wetlandscapes, deep-learning from patterns of high frequency water quality variation, and the impacts of nutrient loading in flowing waters.

Together we will open our hearts to the Word of God, through which we come to know our all-loving Father and discover just how deeply He desires a personal relationship with each of us. Scripture is a living source of hope and strength for every season of life. Whether you are facing loneliness, anger, fear, hopelessness, or any burden of the heart, the Word of God speaks directly to you. In those very places of struggle, Christ Himself calls your name with love and invites you to walk with Him. As we reflect on Scripture, we will learn what it truly means to be disciples of Christ, the Good Shepherd, who leads us with mercy and truth. This gathering is an open space for reflection, honest questions, and shared discovery as we walk with the Lord who said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6).Hosted by: Catholic ClubAdditional Information can be found at: https://fau.campuslabs.com/engage/event/11772973
