Data Engineering Hackathon for Precision Medicine
Data Engineering Hackathon for Precision MedicineKickoff event: Friday, February 7 at 4:00pm in EE 106Hackathon: Friday, February 28 at 5:00pm to Saturday, March 1 at 5:00pm.Three top teams receive up to $10,000 in cash prizes. Judges will determine the prize amounts.Data engineering workflows are critical for the handling of and knowledge generation from contemporary massive datasets, yet when tackling problems in precision medicine the datasets are often characterized as enormous, unstructured, biased, sparse, and consisting of private and sensitive information, which present significant hurdles! Participate in this hackathon to learn, explore, and win prizes! A series of short workshops/talks by industry and academic experts will help you learn and fuel your creativity to propose tools, frameworks, and solutions for precision medicine using the massive All of Us dataset as a testbed! This valuable opportunity will help fuel the next step in your career, allowing you to highlight a practical, team-oriented, and data-drive project on your resume, to network with peers with similar ambitions and educational goals, and to showcase your innovativeness, computational skillset, and capacity for teamwork to hackathon sponsors and partners, which may help open doors for future internships and employment. For information about this successful event from last year, please see the press release from the College of Engineering and Computer Science: https://www.fau.edu/engineering/news/2410-precision-medicine-hackathon/.REGISTER HERE: https://canvas.fau.edu/enroll/G3YPR7[all hackathon resources will be shared on this Canvas course page]Once registered, please complete the All of Us Dataset Onboarding assignment published on the Canvas page. This onboarding assignment must be completed by February 7 to participate in the hackathon.Pre-hackathon Workshops in EE (Engineering East) room 106 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on February 7, February 14, and February 21 come with free hackathon fuel—pizza!Teams of four or five students will participate in pre-hackathon workshops where leading researchers and practitioners will present challenges and opportunities in developing data analytics solutions for precision medicine. These talks are scheduled for 4:00pm - 6:00pm on February 7, February 14, and February 21 and will help teams navigate the All of Us data resource as well as to understand the hurdles and outstanding problems facing precision medicine today. Speakers from IBM, Aventusoft, Memorial Healthcare, and other partners. Teams will check in on February 28 at 5:00pm to enter the hackathon. Register and come to the kickoff to learn more! If you do not have a team, then we will help you join a team on February 7.Kickoff meeting on February 7, 4:00pm – 6:00pm in EE 106Speakers:Dr. Michael DeGiorgioComponents of precision medicineVishnu ChintaNavigating the All of Us data resource
