Welcome!

As part of our commitment to your success, we provide engaging educational tutorials to help you with your transition into the FAU Greek Family. Areas that may present challenges revolve around substance use, and your personal health and safety. We are pleased to introduce you the New Member Institute, our educational program for all Social Greek Lettered Organizations.

New Member Institute Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Learn about the FAU Greek community including the governing councils, signature programs, leadership opportunities, and be able to identify the staff members.
  • Feel a sense of connection to the FAU Greek community, including a sense of responsibility to help a sibling when necessary, and knowing various ways to intervene.
  • Recognize that they now represent the FAU Greek community and understand the potential implications and repercussions of behaviors that do not align with the policies and procedures in place, and why organizations must follow certain rules when hosting events or activities.
  • Know what types of resources are available to the FAU Greek community.

As a member of the FAU Fraternity & Sorority Life community you are expected to complete the substance use and healthy relationship online trainings’ along with the hazing prevention and bystander intervention in-person trainings. Failure to do so may affect your ability become a social host and your SOAE award eligibility.

Owls are ethical bystanders who do something when they see something. This interactive discussion helps students recognize the ways in which we can have a positive impact by watching out for each other. During this presentation, students will:

  • Learn the key steps to being an ethical bystander.
  • Identify reasons why bystanders are hesitant to intervene.
  • Learn about resources they can turn to for assistance.

AlcoholEdu

Module Part 1: 45 to 60 minutes
AlcoholEdu Ongoing for College

Whether you drink or not, the training will provide information to help you make informed decisions about alcohol as well as negotiate the drinking behavior of your peers. Remember, all information you provide is confidential.

Module Assignments:

CannabisEDU

CannabisEDU is a brief training that offers information to help students make informed decisions about cannabis use or non-use, including how to know when someone’s usage has become problematic.
