Explore the vibrant wetlands with Sandler School of Social Work Instructor and local Bird Guide, Kyle Matera. Facilitator Bio: Kyle Matera earned his B.A. in Psychology from Florida Gulf Coast University and his MSW from Florida Atlantic University. He has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2016 and a Qualified Supervisor for licensure since 2018. During the pursuit of his graduate degree, Kyle worked on a Crisis Stabilization Unit in a Community Mental Health Center, an experience that fueled his passion for the treatment of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and one that continues to influence his treatment and teaching styles. When not teaching at FAU, Kyle works as a primary therapist in an outpatient clinic specializing in Opioid Use Disorders while also supervising both Undergraduate and Graduate Social Work students in a mental health crisis stabilization unit. Additionally, he enjoys working as a supervisor for post-graduate Registered Interns. When not working, and as a self-care practice, Kyle is an avid birder and nature photographer. He is a guide for the local Audubon Society and has begun leading nature walks through the university.
