FAU Students Host Events in Honor of Black History Month

Florida Atlantic University student groups will celebrate Black History Month with a series of events throughout the entire month of February. Each year, FAU students observe National Black History Month by celebrating the history and contributions of its African American/Black Diaspora communities.
“African Americans and the Arts” represents this year’s tribute to the rich and transformative contributions of the Black community to the world of arts and culture. This theme serves as a canvas to showcase the brilliance, creativity and resilience of African American artists across various disciplines, including visual arts, music, literature, dance and theater. The events are open to FAU students, faculty, staff and the public.
The following events will take place at the FAU Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road:
Black History Month BBQ
Thursday, Feb. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Housing Lawn/BBQ Pits
To kick off Black History Month, a celebration on the housing lawn with food will take place. All FAU students and organizations are welcome to attend.

Black Excellence Dinner
Friday, Feb. 2, doors open at 6 p.m.
Grand Palms, Student Union
The Governor’s Administrative Cabinet of FAU’s Student Government will host a night of celebration and recognition of exceptional student leaders, spotlighting the impact that they have on the local community.

Fifth Annual Know Your RootΣ

Know Your RootΣ is an event where one can learn more about African American roots, view tabling from hair businesses, and receive a gift. A free hairstyle also will be given away.

The NAACP will host a gathering focused on the celebration of the beauty, strength and resilience of the Black community, while it fosters unity and promotes empowerment through discussions, cultural appreciation and collaboration.

Second Annual World of AfroNations
Monday, Feb. 7, beginning at 6:13 p.m.

This event has been created by Xi Epsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to bring international awareness of Africa and the beautiful culture and traditions which have stemmed from the continent by showcasing the country's educational school systems, the foundation of government, traditions, clothing, family values, staple food dishes, musical instruments, etc.
