FAU Restrictions on TikTok, WeChat and Other Applications
In accordance with a memo from the chancellor of the State University System (SUS) of Florida Board of Governors (BOG) regarding Emergency Regulation 3.0075, Florida Atlantic is taking immediate actions to protect the University from potential threats posed by certain applications or websites of concern. These applications are outlined in the BOG’s SUS Prohibited Technologies List.
The prohibited list includes TikTok, WeChat, Vkontakte (VK), Kaspersky, and QQ (Tencent QQ).
FAU is taking the following technical measures to restrict the use of these applications or websites:
- Blocking access to the applications from all FAU networks, including wireless and residential halls
- Blocking access to the applications from University-owned devices where possible
- Taking actions to prevent the installation of the applications on University-owned devices where possible
- Removing the applications from University-owned devices where possible
FAU employees are to discontinue the use of these applications or websites on University-owned devices including, but not limited to, laptops, desktops, cell phones and tablets, and uninstall any such applications from their devices. If an employee has one of these applications installed on a University-owned device and requires assistance with removal, please contact your department’s IT staff or call the FAU Help Desk (561-297-3999).
Personally-owned devices are not subject to these restrictions when they are used off-campus. However, access to the applications will be blocked while devices are in use on FAU campuses or when connected to the University’s VPN.
